Dedicated to providing affordable LGBTQ Friendly Senior Housing

Mission

LGBTQ Senior Housing’s mission is to facilitate access to welcoming, safe and affordable housing for low-income LGBTQ seniors, including through a formal role in the development of such housing; to define onsite housing services and programming that addresses the needs of LGBTQ seniors; and to support community space to serve seniors in the Greater Boston community.

History

LGBTQ Senior Housing Inc. began in 2015 as a Task Force of committed individuals, looking to find ways to address the need for safe and inclusive affordable housing for LGBTQ seniors. In 2018, we incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization, and are working to make our vision a reality.

The Pryde
Our First Community

In 2019, after a competitive bid process, LGBTQ Senior Housing, alongside our housing development partner Pennrose, was awarded the former William Barton Rogers Middle School in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood. Partnering with the architecture firm DiMella Shaffer, we transformed this historic 100,000-square-foot building into The Pryde—74 affordable, LGBTQ-friendly apartments for seniors aged 62 and over.

The Pryde features a 10,000-square-foot LGBTQ Community Center offering diverse social, educational, and cultural programming for residents, the broader LGBTQ community, and the local Hyde Park neighborhood. This space is a vibrant hub for connection and celebration.

We welcomed our first residents in early 2024, marking the debut of New England’s first housing development of this kind. By creating intentionally LGBTQ-affirming, affordable housing, The Pryde addresses the critical need for safe, welcoming spaces for LGBTQ seniors.

This is just the beginning. We are committed to developing more LGBTQ-affirming senior housing and partnering with others to expand these inclusive communities.

We believe every senior deserves a safe and welcoming home.
