Community Center
At the heart of The Pryde is our vibrant public Community Center, complete with an art gallery, library, education center, and art studio. These spaces are designed to foster connection and growth because we understand that older adults thrive when actively engaged in social, cultural, and educational activities. This is especially vital for LGBTQ seniors, who often face isolation and lack traditional support networks like extended family or faith communities. At The Pryde, we are creating a place where residents can embrace and celebrate their authentic, multifaceted lives through dynamic programming and tailored services. With a dedicated focus on honoring the rich history and resilience of the LGBTQ community, our public Community Center and extensive community spaces represent a groundbreaking vision—one we believe to be the first of its kind in the United States.
A Place for All
The public Community Center, art gallery, library, and art studio serve as vibrant community resources in the heart of Hyde Park’s Main Street district. These welcoming spaces bring people together with intergenerational programming, services, and gathering opportunities—not just for residents of The Pryde, but also for Hyde Park seniors, neighbors, and the larger LGBTQ community. The Community Center hosts meetings, events, celebrations, and community lunches, along with LGBTQ-focused activities such as live performances, film screenings, art exhibits, lectures, readings, and more. To further expand access, we offer innovative remote and virtual programming, connecting elders across Greater Boston and beyond.
Who is this for?
The Community Center is part of the public wing of The Pryde, featuring a warming kitchen and versatile spaces for gatherings of all sizes, festive celebrations, community lunches, events, and more. One classroom in the public wing serves as an art studio, while another transforms into a library and education center dedicated to lifelong learning. A public art gallery and exhibition space showcases rotating exhibits, with a special focus on highlighting the work of LGBTQ artists and creators.
