Community Center at
The Pryde
A Place for All
Integral to The Pryde will be our public Community Center, art gallery, library and education center, and art studio. We know that older adults who are actively engaged in community and have opportunities for social, cultural and educational growth, will live longer, enjoy better health, and have a better quality of life. This is especially true for LGBTQ seniors, who are often isolated and lack access to traditional supports such as extended family and faith communities. Our vision at The Pryde is to provide fabulous programming and services that will engage and support residents in celebrating their authentic, multifaceted lives. We believe that the inclusion of the public Community Center and extensive public community space within The Pryde, with services and programming dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the living history of the LGBTQ community, will be a first in the US.

The public Community Center, art gallery, library and art studio will be a new community resource in the heart of Hyde Park’s Main Street district. These public spaces will offer intergenerational programming, services and places to gather not only for residents of The Pryde, but also for Hyde Park seniors and neighbors and the larger LGBTQ community. We expect the Community Center will provide a place for meetings and events, celebrations and festivities, community lunches, and LGBTQ-focused activities, including live performances, movies, art exhibits, lectures and readings, and more. We also plan to offer innovative remote and virtual programming for our elders wherever they are located in Greater Boston and across the country.

The Community Center is part of the public wing of The Pryde. It will have a warming kitchen and provide space for large and small gatherings, festive celebrations, community lunches, events, and more. One existing classroom in the public wing will be repurposed as an art studio and another will be repurposed as a library and education center for lifelong learning. A public art gallery and exhibition space will feature rotating art exhibits, with special attention to showcasing work by LGBTQ artists and creators.
