The Pryde

Our First Community

LGBTQ Senior Housing’s vision for welcoming and affordable senior housing is becoming reality, as the renovation of the former Rogers School began in spring 2022 to create The Pryde. The Pryde will feature 74 units - a mix of studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom independent living apartments where LGBTQ seniors over age 62 can age as their whole selves, with dignity and compassion.  The name “The Pryde” emerged in community conversations and reflects the connection between our community and the location of this historic building in the heart of the Hyde Park neighborhood.

The Pryde building includes a 10,000 square foot Community Center, which will serve as a vibrant public gathering space. The Community Center will include a learning classroom, library and art exhibition space, and host Portraits of Pride,  a photography project that presents large-scale and intimate portraits of LGBTQ leaders through curated exhibitions and special installations. There will be a multipurpose space for neighborhood meetings and events, becoming an integral part of the Hyde Park community. The public wing of The Pryde will host office space for the 54th Regiment, a 100% volunteer organization committed to preserving the history of the brave African American soldiers who served in the United States military during the Civil War and trained at Camp Meigs in the Readville section of Hyde Park, as well include the offices of LGBTQ Senior Housing.

The groundbreaking ceremony at The Pryde took place on June 17th, 2022. Our many supporters joined us, including elected and appointed officials from the city, state and federal level as well as representatives from public and private agencies who helped shepherd the development plan through the approval process, and who assembled the financing to make The Pryde a reality.

We celebrated with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, MA Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, U.S. Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley,  U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development Assistant Deputy Secretary Michele Perez, MA Dept. of Housing & Community Development Undersecretary Jennifer Maddox, MA State Representative Rob Consalvo, Boston City Councilors Ricardo Arroyo, Ruthzee Louijeune and Julia Mejia, Pennrose LLC President Timothy Henkel, Hyde Park businesswoman Pat Tierney, and over 100 neighbors, friends, community leaders, and many of the extraordinary professionals who developed the plan to create Boston’s first affordable and LGBTQ-welcoming senior housing.
